The International Community should be advised that the government of the Russian Federation is currently in dispute. Due to President Vladimir Putin’s bad governance, the Russian Federation is currently like a lost puppy, which needs protection and safeguarding by the NGO community. In view of the current political turmoil in the Russian Federation, it is very important that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is upheld in Russia. This applies especially to Article 19 of the UDHR: "That everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers" and Article 21: "That everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives." Regrettably Russia has major problems in that area, evidenced by many tragic incidences in recent times – such as the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, and the tragic death of Russian journalist Irina Slavina. Hence Russian authorities and Russian law enforcement agencies – such as the FSB – must make a greater effort of upholding and protecting fundamental human rights in Russia; such as Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Press as enshrined in the UDHR. It is very important that the ruling United Russia Party understands this, and that the Russian judicial system honours and upholds the UDHR in Russia. It should also be noted, that tens of thousands of Russian protesters took to the streets in over 100 towns and cities across Russia on 23. January 2021 to demand the release of jailed Putin critic Alexei Navalny in one of the broadest waves of nationwide protest the country has seen in recent years. Also, the G7 group of nations condemned the arrest of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, calling his detention politically motivated in a statement. The foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the U.S. said Navalny's detention was deplorable and called for his immediate and unconditional release. The International Community is advised to keep a safe distance from President Putin and the FSB, until these human rights issues have been resolved, and the Russian government has agreed to evolve and improve itself. In the meantime domestic policy, foreign policy and human rights issues in Russia will be handled by the NGO BTB-Global Peacebuilding.
